BONGBONG WINS INGENIO PRIZE

Montréal – Loto-Québec’s research and development arm Ingenio awarded its $5,000 special prize to Montréal company BongBong at the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest’s 10th annual gala held at the Centre des congrès de Québec on June 19, 2008. Long-time partner of the “Entrepreneurial Creation” segment of this province-wide competition, Ingenio awards this prize to the best project submitted as part of a business launch initiative in the field of interactive multimedia entertainment.
This year’s winner, BongBong, will produce the Web site for BananaCam.tv, an online venue for a new weekly sitcom made up of three-minute video clips. As a bonus, the site will offer an interactive game that lets users interact with their favourite character.
Company promoter and founder Jean-François Grenier expects to release the first vignettes, featuring three characters portrayed by professional actors filming themselves with their webcams and telling their life story, sometime in September. “What makes our series original is that it gives the site’s visitors a chance to play a role by creating their own video conversation with the characters using an application available on the site,” he explains. Those visitors will get to post their video clips on the BananaCam.tv site and other visitors will get to vote for their favourite. Whoever posts the week’s most popular video will earn a role in the series.
“The members of the special Ingenio prize jury noted that BongBong’s project fit right in with the Web 2.0 approach and represented the latest trends in multimedia entertainment, in which users take on an active role in the product,” said Ingenio’s director general, Nathalie Rajotte, who served as jury chair for this particular prize. “Ingenio is proud not only of its association with the Québec Entrepreneurship Contest, but also of its role as a strong supporter of emerging multimedia companies,” she added.
