2008 PROVES LUCKY FOR LOTTO 6/49 JACKPOT WINNERS IN B.C.

Richmond, BC – British Columbians will be hoping their lucky streak continues tonight, with the Lotto 6/49 draw featuring a bonus jackpot worth more than $30 million!
So far this year, the province has produced four jackpot winners in the nationwide lottery game, already equaling the total number of winners in all of 2007.
Even more amazing is the total amount of money awarded to these winners.
Last year, 6/49 jackpot payouts in B.C. totaled $17.5 million, while this year that number has more than doubled, jumping to $38.2 million with six months remaining.
"It's really quite remarkable," says Jim Lightbody, British Columbia Lottery Corporation's (BCLC) Vice President of Lottery Gaming.
"Although all lottery results are completely random, there's no denying British Columbians have been luckier this year. The average 6/49 jackpot won in B.C. last year was just over four million dollars, but so far this year we are averaging more than nine-and-a-half million per winner."
The luckiest of the 6/49 jackpot winners to date in B.C. is Surrey's Gary Sobolik, who matched six out of six numbers on June 14 to earn a whopping $21.9 million. To put it in perspective, that single sum is four million dollars more than all of last year's Lotto 6/49 jackpot winners in B.C. combined.
