SURVEY SHOWS B.C. "MILLIONAIRES" CREATIVE WHEN IT COMES TO CELEBRATING CANADA DAY
June 27, 2008
Richmond, BC - British Columbians would celebrate Canada Day in style if they were to win the lottery, according to a new online opinion poll.

Forty percent of those participating in the Ipsos Reid "Voice of the West" survey said they would throw an extravagant party for family and friends on July 1 if they were to win the Lotto 6/49 draw, which this Saturday features an estimated $32 million jackpot.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate the nation's 141st birthday," said Jim Lightbody, British Columbia Lottery Corporation's (BCLC) Vice President of Lottery Gaming. "Buy your ticket before the long weekend, then celebrate Canada Day in style as B.C.'s newest millionaire."

Thirty-seven percent of those asked would take a trip.

"I would reunite our family for a tour across Canada with a stop in Ottawa," said one respondent. "It'd be great to see the fireworks in our nation's capital."

"I'd buy huge Canadian flags for all my neighbours and turn our block into a sea of red and white," said another respondent, while yet another would celebrate over dinner consisting of "fresh B.C. salmon, local Vancouver Island produce and some fine Okanagan wine."

Other popular answers included donating money to the Canadian troops serving overseas, the homeless, and to various local charities.
