LYNNWOOD MAN'S 25 YEARS OF DREAMS COME TRUE
June 25, 2008
OLYMPIA— Thomas Currier, a Boeing employee from Lynnwood, says he’s played the Lottery sporadically since its launch 25 years ago. He says he dreamt what it would feel like to win a major jackpot but admits that he never really thought he could actually win. After recently coming home from a weeklong business trip his years of dreaming turned into a surreal reality.
“I bought a Hit 5 ticket before I left for my trip,” Currier said. “When I came back I went to the store to check my ticket and saw they had a sign posted that there was an unclaimed ticket sold there worth $145,000. When I slid the ticket through the machine, the screen read, ‘Claim at Lottery Office.’ I just smiled silently and walked out of the store to call my wife.”
Currier remained even keeled as he picked up the phone and dialed his wife.
“I told her that we won and she was so excited,” Currier laughed. “We couldn’t be happier but both of us have stayed really calm. Maybe it just doesn’t seem real yet.”
The couple says they plan to use the money to continue their plans for a comfortable retirement.
“We’re building our retirement property in eastern Washington and this money will help us continue to build on our dream,” Currier said. “It just comes at such a great time for us with the economy the way it is. We were worried, but this gives us such assurance that we’ll be comfortable. It just feels so great.”
Currier won the May 31 Hit 5 drawing when he matched the numbers 07-12-24-30-34. The $290,000 jackpot for the drawing was split with Monroe resident, Donelda Queen. Currier’s winning ticket was purchased from Food Emporium located at 13619 Mukilteo Speedway in Lynnwood.
