A NICE CHUNK OF CHANGE
June 25, 2008
ATHENS… A nice chunk of change is how spokesperson Scott V. Vermillion is touting the winning of a second-tier prize in a Mega Millions drawing. Twenty-three workers of the Logan Ohio Department of Transportation will split $250,000 for matching five numbers in the June 17 drawing. All 23 workers completed the claims process in the Athens’ regional office on Monday.

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, each will receive $7,500 after taxes.

The group has been playing together since the 90s, chipping in $2 per week. Members are: Scott Vermillion, James Savely, William J. Miller, Beverley S. Peppers, Zachary Smith, Garren Ballinger, Kassie Sargent, Orville Lyons, Ronald R. Newhauser, Clarence E. Herring, David W. Micafee, J W Grose Jr., William R. Humphrey, Beverly A. Sargent, Stony L. Joy, Crystal Myers, Randy J.Wahl, David F. Sufronko, Brian McDaniel, Chad M. Slack, Charleese T. Napier, Russell D. Harvey and Tom Dollison.

Vermillion says he buys the tickets and says that patience and prevailing are the keys to winning. The winning numbers were 5-14-25-47-49. The mega ball was 36. They group always uses the auto lotto. They purchased the ticket from Murphy USA in Logan, 12892 St. RT. 664 South in Logan. This agent receives a $1,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.

Vermillion says that the win is good for Logan because the group will spend their windfall in the Logan area.

Friday’s Mega Million’s jackpot is $34 million.
