RALEIGH - Friday the 13th was Wilson “Butch” Bottorf’s lucky day. The Whittier man matched all five white balls in the June 13 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing to win the top prize of $429,792!
“I still don’t believe it. I feel like I’m in dreamland,” Bottorf said when he claimed his winnings at the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) headquarters in Raleigh earlier today.
Bottorf purchased his winning ticket at the Hot Spot #1102 on Main Street in Bryson City. He says he goes to the Hot Spot every morning to drink coffee and talk with his friends, all of whom now know he’s a big winner! The retired electrician says he will use his winnings to pay off bills and his mortgage, tithe to the church, and buy a new pickup truck.
One lucky Powerball player from the Saturday, June 14, drawing is holding a ticket worth $800,000! The ticket matched all five white balls and was Power Played. Since the Power Play wheel landed on 4 for Saturday night’s drawing 4, the $200,000 payout was increased to $800,000. The ticket was sold at Kangaroo Express #3205 on Hickory Tree Road in Winston-Salem.
Five tickets in Saturday’s Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. The payout for this combination is $10,000; however, one ticket was Power Played, which increased the prize to $40,000. This ticket was sold at Community Mart on Andrew Jackson Highway in Laurinburg.
The other tickets that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball, but were not Power Played are worth $10,000 each. These were sold at Robinhood Tobacco on Robinhood Road in Winston-Salem, Edgewood Mini Mart on Edgewood Road in Bessemer City, Wilco #107 on Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, and Food Lion #381 on Main Street in Rockwell.
A total of 37,856 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, June 14, drawing, ranging from $800,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $1,249,319. No one matched all five white balls and the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the Powerball jackpot for the Wednesday, June 18, Powerball drawing is $42 million.
The NCEL has paid out more than $4.8 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, June 12. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $598,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1.6 million in prizes.
