RALEIGH - Phyllis Caudle of Rural Hall says she loves to play the lottery and has always wanted to win big. Well, win big she did when her Powerball ticket for the June 18 drawing matched all five white balls, making it worth $800,000!
The normal payout for matching all five white balls is $200,000; however Caudle says, “I would never play and not Power Play!” She says she always pays the $1 extra to have the chance to multiply her non-jackpot winnings. Since the Power Play wheel landed on 4 for the drawing, her winnings jumped from $200,000 to $800,000.
Caudle says she will use some of the money for home improvements. She purchased her winning ticket at Three Brothers on Broad Street in Rural Hall.
A Powerball ticket worth $800,000 from the June 14 drawing remains unclaimed. This ticket was purchased at Kangaroo Express #3205 on Hickory Tree Road in Winston-Salem.
One ticket in the Friday, June 20, “Carolina Cash 5” drawing matched all five white balls to win the top prize of $307,726. The ticket was sold at Skip’s on East Nash Street in Spring Hope. The prize has yet to be claimed.
The Powerball jackpot continues to roll higher. No one matched all five white balls and the Powerball in Saturday night’s drawing, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, June 25, drawing is an estimated $64 million. A total of 37,829 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, June 21, drawing, ranging from $100 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $244,654.
The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, June 19. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $455,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1.8 million in prizes.
