(Baltimore) – A Canton woman couldn’t believe the news that she was $50,000 richer. The 45-year-old and her mother were at the Eastpoint Mall to get a watch battery replaced. While the avid scratch-off player was waiting for her mother to make her battery purchase, she walked over to the American News store and decided to buy one Bonus Match 5 ticket. When they left the mall she went home and watched the drawing on television. “I thought I only had the 7 and 11, so I left the ticket on the counter and went to bed,” she admits.
The following morning she called her mother to check the numbers, who told her to call the numbers out to her while she checked the newspaper. Her mom then added, “Don’t get excited until we double check the numbers.” After checking and rechecking, they were still unconvinced and went to the grocery store and asked for a print out of the winning Bonus Match 5 numbers. Once they confirmed she had a $50,000 winning ticket they still couldn’t believe it. However, they did put the winning ticket in her sister’s safe for safekeeping.
The lucky winner would like to use her winnings to move to St Thomas, but actually plans to give to church and family, then put the rest in a savings account for retirement. The winning ticket was purchased at American News located at the Eastpoint Mall in Baltimore.
