ATLANTA – A retired Jackson mail carrier has stamped and sealed a lottery win. Freddie Dodson, who retired eight years ago as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, matched all five winning numbers in the June 1 Fantasy 5 drawing and won a $501,448 top prize.
Jackson Food Mart, 412 W. Third St. in Jackson, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket. Winning numbers from the June 1 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 1-12-21-32-36.
The grandfather of five said he checked the winning numbers at the store a few days after the drawing.
"I was kind of startled at first," said Dodson, 70.
An avid golf player, Dodson and his wife, Jane, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year and have five adult children. The couple have no immediate plans for their winnings.
"Winning the lottery feels pretty good," he shared. "I'm not sure yet of what to do."
