Viola Bland of Warrenton had a good day on June 3, 2008 – a VERY good day. She bought 20 tickets in the Virginia Lottery’s Pick 4 game, all with the same four-number combination of 6-8-5-5.
“It’s just the numbers I picked,” she later told Virginia Lottery officials. I said, ‘I’m going to play that number 20 times!’”
Sure enough, the numbers 6-8-5-5 just happened to be the winning numbers in the day drawing. Since each ticket won the top prize of $5,000, she won a total of $100,000!
Ms. Bland, who works as a certified nurse’s assistant, bought all of the tickets at Warrenton Exxon, located at 309 West Lee Highway in Warrenton. She said the winnings will help in purchasing a new home.
Pick 4 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of matching all four numbers in one drawing are 1 in 10,000.
