CEDAR RAPIDS MAN WINS $20,000 IN MIDST OF FLOOD CLEANUP
June 13, 2008
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Linn County man was moving his belongings to higher ground when he found some winning lottery tickets - and then cashed them in to buy what turned out to be a $20,000-winning ticket!
Glenn Wallace, 27, of Cedar Rapids won $20,000 playing the “Super Deuces” instant-scratch scratch game. He purchased the winning ticket at Casey's, 130 41st Ave. Drive S.W. in Cedar Rapids and claimed his prize at Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids on Thursday.
Wallace's home is one of many homes in Iowa that has experienced flood damage recently. He was moving possessions to higher ground when he found some winning scratch tickets he needed to redeem.
“I actually found a couple of winners underneath my couch,” he said. “I took them up [to the Casey's store] and cashed them in and got a different one.”
Then, as luck would have it, he bought a big winner!
Wallace said he'll use his winnings to help with flood cleanup.
“I'll probably [be] replacing everything that gets messed up from this, I suppose,” he said.
Super Deuces is a $2 scratch game. If a player finds a black “2” symbol, he/she wins the prize shown for that symbol. If a red “2” symbol is uncovered, the player wins double the prize shown.
Wallace claimed the first $20,000 top prize in the game. Nine top prizes are still up for grabs in the game, along with about 230 prizes of $200. Overall odds in the game are 1 in 3.94.
