INDIANAPOLIS - Beverly Martin of Fort Wayne immediately thought the worst when her husband told her they needed to talk about money. The money he was talking about was their most recent win on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off ticket.
"He told me that he scratched off a million dollar winner from the Lottery," said Martin. "Oh no you didn't I replied. But he really did!"
Martin and her husband are the most recent Hoosier Lottery millionaires. She claimed their $1,000,000 prize from Hoosier Lottery Headquarters Friday after her husband scratched off only the first row of numbers on the ticket.
"Once he matched the number 60, he stopped scratching," said Martin. "I've looked at it about half a dozen times!"
Martin's Indiana Millionaire Scratch-off ticket was purchased from Scott's J-412 at 1125 West State Blvd. in Fort Wayne. The $20 ticket's top prize is $1,000,000 and there are two top prizes remaining since Martin claimed hers. The winnings will be paid out in the form of an annuity over 20 years.
Eventually the two will plan to retire, but until that point they will "pay off every bill we have and then we'll see," said Martin.
Linda Wilson-Green of Fort Wayne has landed the top prize of "Gas for Life" after playing the Hoosier Lottery's new Scratch-off game.
"I didn't believe it," said Wilson-Green who claimed her prize with husband John Green. "We weren't sure so we went back to the store for verification."
Wilson-Green won the top prize on the first ticket off of the pack from retailer Smoker's Discount Tobacco at 6519 E. State Blvd. in Fort Wayne.
"We've got a big old truck," said Wilson Green. "This prize will definitely help. Bless the Hoosier Lottery!"
Wilson-Green was the first top prize winner on the Gas for Life Scratch-off game. There are still 31 top prizes remaining. "Gas for Life” is the top prize, totaling $78,000, paid over 50 yrs.
