$250,000 WINNING TICKET FOUND IN THROWN OUT RECLINER

SACRAMENTO – California Lottery player Candy Tyree had done some spring cleaning around the house, so when her husband, Jim, asked if she had checked the one-week old MEGA Millions ticket in his chair she had a moment of worry. She was getting rid of the old recliner, but had only moved it outside of the house.
“I’m good at throwing his stuff away before he’s done,” Candy explained with a laugh and a smiling look at her husband when the two claimed their winning prize at the Sacramento Lottery District Office.
There are pockets and compartments in the armrests of the chair. From one of those, Candy was able to retrieve the ticket. Then, wife and husband checked the numbers on the Lottery’s Web site.
“It was all in slow motion,” said Jim. Candy picked up the story, “He grabbed me by the cheeks and said don’t tell anyone. I cried. I was in shock. It was like I was hit by a baseball bat.” The ticket is worth $249,050. The Tyree’s might use the prize money for a house and to help plan for retirement.
The winning ticket was purchased at the ampm at the intersection of Madison and Main Avenues in Orangevale. The ticket hit the first five numbers drawn Friday night, May 30, but missed the Mega number. No one won the grand prize requiring a player to hit all six numbers. The next MEGA Millions jackpot, which will be drawn tomorrow night, is worth $45 million.
As for the chair, it still appears on its way out. But Jim added, “I could be the lucky chair now.” No response from Candy, yet.
