ELKTON WOMAN WINS $250,000 MEGA MILLIONS PRIZE

(Baltimore) – “I’m still in shock,” said Janice Lipford. The Cecil County native came to Lottery Headquarters Thursday afternoon to claim her second-tier $250,000 Mega Millions prize from the May 16th drawing. Accompanied by her sister, daughter and niece, she was still clearly surprised by her good fortune. “I don’t usually win anything,” she said.
An infrequent Lottery player, Janice decided to try her luck at Mega Millions after talking with her mother and long-time boyfriend, both who are fans of Lottery play. The 39-year-old mother-of-two had visited her mom at work and stopped to buy her ticket on her way home. Friday night’s drawing came and went and the Lottery ticket she had purchased remained in her car. It wasn’t until three days later that Janice thought to check it.
“I was so busy planning my daughter’s high school graduation party and I run a daycare,” that I forgot about it,” she said.
Janice said that something just told her to check the ticket and to her great surprise she was a winner. With her prize money, Janice intends to buy her 61-year-old mother a home. “She really deserves it, this is wonderful,” she said smiling.
Maryland has had a total of 15 $250,000 second-tier Mega Millions winners and 87 $10,000 third-tier winners since January.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shore Stop located at 407 N Bridge St in Elkton.
