WIFE GIVES HUSBAND $30,000 BIRTHDAY PRESENT WITH LOTTERY TICKET!

DES MOINES, Iowa - An Ankeny man couldn't have asked for a better 39th birthday present from his wife.
Doug Helling of Ankeny won $30,000 in the April 30 Powerball drawing. His wife, Cindy, purchased the winning ticket for him on his birthday at Quik Trip, 4024 Fleur Dr. in Des Moines.
Helling said, “I said [to my wife], ‘Go buy a lottery ticket. It's my birthday.’ She went and bought one and then a few days later they had the drawing and we won!”
At first, Helling gave his wife a hard time about paying the extra dollar for the Power Play® option, but then thought twice about what he said after the multiplier tripled his prize.
“In this case, I'd say it pretty much paid off!” said Helling.
The winning Powerball numbers for the April 30 drawing were: 1-17-25-43-51. The Powerball was 38. The Power Play multiplier was 3.
“I was punching [the numbers] in on my computer and one come up that I had the Powerball and won $3. I was excited about that. The next one came up and it said $10,000 with Power Play $30,000. I about wore my keyboard out. I punched in [the numbers] six to eight times thinking, ‘This can't be right.’ And then I drove here immediately,” Helling laughed.
Helling claimed his prize at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He already knows what he plans to do with his winnings.
“We did just get carpeting, so I'm sure $5,000 will go to that. And my wife just had [eye surgery] done last Friday, so that will be done too…Of course, we'll each take $1,000 for fun money and just go play!” said Helling. He plans to invest the rest.
Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The cost is $1 per play.
Just before the Powerball numbers are drawn, the Power Play wheel is spun. Slots on the wheel list the numbers 2 through 5, indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn.
