LOTTERY PURCHASE WHIM TURNS INTO MAJOR WIN

Richmond, B.C. – Today, Sawarn Singh Dhaliwal is $8.1 million richer after making a split second decision to buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the May 17, 2008 draw.
Sawarn, a 58 year old married father of three grown children, has been living in Westbank with his sons' families and helping them with their orchard business since being laid off from his job in Fort St. James last fall.
While filling a prescription at Extra Foods in Westbank, Sawarn decided to buy a ticket for the Lotto Super 7 bonus jackpot draw. At the last minute he decided to take a chance on Lotto 6/49 as well. That turned out to be the best decision of the day!
A few days after the draw, Sawarn's son Gary prompted his dad to check his ticket after he read a news article stating that the winning ticket had been purchased in Westbank. Gary checked the numbers online and says his dad thought he was kidding when he told him he had matched six out of six.
"I didn't believe he was telling me the truth," says Sawarn, whose eyes lit up remembering the moment he learned about the win.
Sawarn is waiting to decide exactly what do with the winnings, but says, "Maybe I'll start a business or invest in something."
"Our dad doesn't have to listen to us telling him what to do around our orchard business anymore," says Gary.
In the meantime, the lucky winner will put his winnings in the bank and plans to take his family to India for a vacation in the winter. He hasn't ruled out returning to his hometown. "I miss my friends in Fort St. James," says Sawarn.
