Patricia Clark-Hines and Wayne Shelton, both of Richmond, have a cool half-million dollars to split. They won $250,000 twice in the same Mega Millions drawing.
Ms. Clark-Hines purchased the first ticket at Lucky’s – Three Chopt, located at 9911 Three Chopt Road in Richmond. Then she purchased a second ticket at Fas Mart, located at 6675 Cold Harbor Road in Mechanicsville. She selected the same numbers on both tickets which were for the May 13, 2008, Mega Millions drawing.
The next day, she called Mr. Shelton and told him she had a winning ticket. “I think I’m going to faint!” she said.
A short time later she called back and said, “I have two tickets; one for you and one for me.”
Both tickets matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. The winning numbers for that drawing were 20-24-27-31-47 and the Mega Ball number was 15.
Ms. Clark-Hines, who teaches belly dancing at the University of Richmond, told Lottery officials she hopes to use her winnings to purchase a new car. Mr. Shelton, who is a technical writer and editor, said he had no immediate plans for his winnings.
