ATLANTA – An Acworth mechanic has netted a lottery win. John Chappell, who celebrated his 46th birthday May 10, played the Georgia Lottery instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club and won a $1 million prize.

Chappell purchased the winning ticket at Acworth Food Mart, 4138 S. Main St. in Acworth, while on his way to work. He scratched the ticket in the store.

"I had to look at it twice," he said. "I showed it to the clerk, and she gave me a hug."

Chappell and his wife, Naomi, plan to pay bills, he said.
