LOTTERY LAUNCHES SECOND MILLION-DOLLAR RAFFLE – WITH A TWIST! TICKETS GO ON SALE SUNDAY
May 1, 2008
OLYMPIA — The IRS has spoken. Your tax rebate stimulus checks are on the way! So what are you going to do with your money? Here’s a thought: spend $20 on a Raffle ticket, and you may get $1 million back!
Last November, Washington’s Lottery made three Washingtonians instant millionaires in its first ever Raffle game. That limited edition game was so successful, it sold out well before the drawing date. Now the Lottery is giving the state another chance to win big.
“We had such positive reaction to our first Raffle, we just had to do it again,” said Lottery Spokesperson Jacque Coe. “We’re looking forward to crowning three more millionaires!”
The basics of the game remain the same. 375,000 tickets will be available, and three people will win $1 million each. Four people will win $100,000, and 350 will win $1,000! But this Raffle game has a new twist – the players will help determine the drawing date.
“With the first Raffle, once players purchased their tickets, they didn’t want to wait a couple months before finding out if they won. So, we’re leaving the draw date in their hands,” says Coe. “This Raffle drawing will occur within five days of sell-out, or June 26, whichever comes first. So, the fastest way to find out if you’re $1 million richer is to buy your ticket soon!”
Because of that twist, Lottery officials are urging Washingtonians to buy their Raffle tickets when they go on sale this Sunday, May 4. The Raffle game is a customer’s best bet at winning a million bucks, so tickets are expected to sell out again. Odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 125,000, and overall odds of winning any Raffle prize is 1 in 1050.
Tickets may be purchased for $20 each at any Washington’s Lottery retail store location when they open the morning of May 4. The Million Dollar Raffle is a draw game, so it may be purchased in the same way customers purchase Lotto, Hit 5, The Daily Game and Daily Keno tickets. “This could be a fun use of that tax refund or rebate!” suggests Coe.
