PORTALES MAN WINS $100,000 NEW MEXICO LOTTERY PRIZE

That’s how Susanna Short described husband Joshua Short’s reaction after winning a $100,000 prize playing a New Mexico Lottery Scratcher game.
The 31-year-old self-employed handyman bought the “100,000 Jumbo Bucks” Scratcher as a diversion while waiting for 22 gallons of gas to fill the bone-dry tank of his business truck.
“I started shaking,” Short said after he revealed one zero after another and realized he was holding a ticket worth $100,000.
The prize comes at the perfect time for the couple, which is in the midst of ambitious home improvements. The Shorts recently purchased an abandoned church and they are converting it into the home of their dreams. The 70-year-old building needs a garage and a new roof.
Short purchased his winning Scratcher ticket at Allsup’s Store No. 127 at 1325 S. Ave. D in Portales. This lottery retailer has sold 19 other large prize-winning tickets ranging between $1,000 and $75,000.
