Richmond – Vancouver resident Richard Bourdon received the shock of his life when he opened his newspaper on Saturday morning. The 57-year-old father of three saw that he matched seven out of seven numbers on the April 18, 2008 Lotto Super 7 draw, winning him $15,000,001!
Although Richard saw his lottery numbers in the newspaper, he didn't believe his eyes and continued reading. Once he finished the paper, he decided to check again. This time he decided he'd better go get the ticket validated.
"I thought it couldn't be real but said to myself that I should go and confirm this," said Richard, a warehouse worker.
He went back to the lottery retailer where he purchased his ticket (Shefield & Sons in the Champlain Mall on Kerr Street) to make certain he had a winner. And what a winner it was - he had the only ticket matching all seven numbers for the $15 million jackpot.
Richard purchased his winning ticket after going to Shefield & Sons to play Keno. When he remembered it was Friday, he decided to play Lotto Super 7.
"I always play Super 7 with the Extra on Fridays," said Richard.
Richard, a sports fisherman, plans to use his windfall to retire early and "set the children up".
