POWERBALL PRIZES POTENTIALLY WORTH 10 TIMES MORE IN APRIL

DENVER – Imagine turning a $200,000 Powerball prize into $2 million just by spending $1 more when purchasing a ticket. That dream could become reality for Powerball players who choose the Power Play option in April. Power Play offers ticket-buyers the chance to multiply their winnings (except the jackpot) by whatever multiplier the Power Play wheel lands on, ranging from 2 to 5. Starting April 2, a '10' will replace a '5' on the Power Play wheel, potentially providing 10 times the pay off!
"This promotion offers players a big reward for choosing Power Play," said Colorado Lottery Director Peggy Gordon. "Even the minimum $3 prize could suddenly become $30 if you choose Power Play and the wheel lands on 10."
More than a third of the people who have won a Powerball prize have increased their winnings through Power Play. For instance, players automatically win $200,000 when they match five of six numbers in Powerball. But in just the last three years, six Colorado players have become millionaires because they matched five of six numbers and hit a multiplier of '5' with the Power Play option.
If the Power Play lands on '10' during April, the $200,000 prize amount jumps to $2 million. The number 10 will remain on the Power Play wheel until April 30. If the 10 times multiplier isn’t hit during the promotional period, it will stay on the wheel until it is hit. The multiplier applies to all prizes except the jackpot. Last year, Colorado had a 19 percent increase in Powerball tickets purchased with the Power Play option. Participation averaged nearly 50 percent during the 10X promotion in April 2007.
