B.C. WINNERS WALK AWAY WITH $4 MILLION EACH!
March 25, 2008
Richmond, B.C. – British Columbia Lottery Corporation announced not one, but two new B.C. multi-millionaires. Manjit Sanghara of Richmond and Chanthavong "Chan" Souvannachack of Abbotsford both arrived at the lottery corporation's Richmond office today to collect their winnings - $4,069,830 each! Both winners matched six out of six numbers on the Saturday, March 15, 2008 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Manjit Sanghara didn't realize she had won the jackpot until her son Jagjeet checked the ticket on bclc.com last Friday. When the 55-year-old kitchen clerk heard the good news, she was shocked. The mother-of-five actually collected slightly more than Chan as she also won $1 on the EXTRA.
"When he told me I thought it can't be real. We've just finished building a new house, so it couldn't have come at a better time," said Manjit, who purchased her winning ticket at Seafair Smoke & Mixer. "I've spent my life working and trying to provide the best and pay off my mortgage and now I can!"
Chanthavong "Chan" Souvannachack, 56, is a fork lift operator who always plays random numbers on Lotto 6/49. This might explain why he didn't realize he won half of the $8 million jackpot until yesterday, when he checked his ticket at Cedar Park Place in Abbotsford.
"I had stopped to check a couple of tickets when the prize came up on the screen. The retailer was so happy, he punched me in the shoulder and told me I'd just won $4 million!" said the father of two, who purchased his winning ticket at Guildford Town Centre.
"This is a dream come true," said Chan, who plans to buy a new truck and boat and retire to enjoy them.
