RETIRED CHAMPION SEAMSTRESS COLLECTS $1,000,000 LOTTERY PRIZE

Schenectady, NY - Sixty-three-year-old Diane Scheer of the Town of Norwich is Chenango County’s first Lottery Millionaire of 2008, and the fourth from Norwich since 1984.
Scheer, a mother of four and grandmother of 11 retired from her job as a seamstress at the Champion factory when the business closed in 1994. She said winning the Lottery is like a dream come true.
“My husband used to ask me when I was going to win the jackpot,” said Scheer. “I guess I have my answer now.”
Scheer won the top prize on the Lottery’s popular Win $1,000 A Week For Life instant game. The $2 game guarantees a minimum payout of $1,000,000.
“I always buy a Win For Life ticket when I do my (grocery) shopping,” she said. “It’s fun. It’s really fun now.”
Scheer bought her $1,000,000 ticket on March 13, 2008 at the Price Chopper on State Route 12 in Norwich. She claimed her ticket at the Lottery’s Syracuse Customer Service Center on March 18, 2008.
“I didn’t trust my own eyes,” said Scheer. “I waited for my son to tell me it was real. He couldn’t believe it either.”
Scheer said she doesn’t consider herself to be a big spender, but does look forward to being able “to get something that I want, when I want it.”
