K-STATE STUDENT WINS $10,000 PRIZE ON $1 SCRATCH TICKET

TOPEKA, KAN. – Thomas Hurst, a freshman at Kansas State University, says it was only the second time he had purchased scratch tickets. He bought three $1 Double Doubler tickets, won $10, and purchased three more. This time he added a few zeroes to his winnings –uncovering a $10,000 top prize on the last ticket he scratched!
“I was freaking out,” said Hurst.
“He almost cried,” Hurst’s buddy Randy Weich added.
“No I didn’t!” Hurst responded. “Okay, yes, I did.”
Hurst, who is from Yorba Linda, California, brought a few of his college friends with him when he came to Topeka to claim his prize. He may have needed moral support, but even more than that, he needed someone to drive.
“I’m going to buy a car with my prize money,” he revealed. “I don’t have one right now.”
Hurst said he had told his parents back in California about his good fortune, but they didn’t believe him.
“They still don’t,” he said. “I’m going to have to send them a picture of me with the big check. I’m sure the picture is going to end up on Facebook, too.”
Hurst purchased his lucky winning ticket at Dara’s Fast Lane 2, located at 3270 Kimball Ave. in Manhattan.
