WICHITA RESIDENT WINS $20,000 WHILE DOING GOOD DEED

TOPEKA, KAN. – Every day during his lunch hour, Jorge Albert Leos-Hernandez shares his lunch with co-workers who can’t afford to bring their own. Last Friday, he didn’t have enough to share, so he stopped at a convenience store to purchase extra burritos. While making his purchase, Leos-Hernandez decided to cash in a free lottery ticket he had in his pocket for a $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket. Much to his astonishment, he revealed 10 words, winning a $20,000 top prize.
“I couldn’t believe it,” smiled Leos-Hernandez. “I called my wife Maria immediately to tell her the news. When she answered the phone I said, ‘I have a surprise for you. I just won $20,000.’ She thought I was lying. She didn’t believe me until I got home and showed her my ticket.”
According to Leos-Hernandez, he was very nervous in keeping a $20,000 winning ticket in his possession over the weekend.
“That’s a lot of money,” said Leos-Hernandez. “I gave it to my wife to hide until today. I knew she’d hide it in a good spot. We were happy and nervous the entire weekend.”
Leos-Hernandez said he plays Bonus Crossword tickets often but has never come close to winning a $20,000 top prize.
“The most I’ve won is $20 or $30,” said Leos-Hernandez. “Now I can pay off my house and do a little remodeling. Our four kids are excited, too. They’d like to go on vacation.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Spee D Stop, located at 705 S. 14th Ave., Dodge City.
