OKLAHOMA RESIDENT WINS $6,000 PLAYING POKER FACE

TOPEKA, KAN. – Last Friday afternoon, after picking up his daughters from school in Chetopa, Jason Smith of Welch, Okla. stopped at a convenience store to purchase his wife Sonya an ice cream sandwich. The store was sold out, so Smith decided to purchase a variety of $1 scratch tickets instead. Much to his disbelief, he won a $6,000 top prize playing a $1 Poker Face instant scratch ticket.
“When we got home, I sat down and played my tickets,” explained Smith. “My daughters were outside playing and Sonya was taking a bath. When I realized I’d won $6,000, I started hollering, ‘Oh, my God!’ I was so loud my girls could hear me outside.”
Sonya, who was relaxing in the bathtub, couldn’t figure out what the commotion was all about until Jason showed her the winning ticket.
“He came in a hollerin’ that he’d won $6,000,” smiled Sonya. “I didn’t believe him, so I told him to get my glasses so I could see for myself. I couldn’t believe.”
Jason, who works as a cabinet maker, and Sonya, who is a nurse, also own and operate their own goat and sheep farm. They plan to purchase a newer vehicle and possibly some sheep with their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Bailey’s Corner Jump Start 7, located at 104 S. 3rd St., in Chetopa.
