HARDWORKING NURSE WINS THE LOTTERY, TAKES THE DAY OFF
March 10, 2008
OLYMPIA – When Marilou Aesquivel buys a Lottery ticket, she usually gives it to her husband for safe keeping. Sometimes she loses them, she says.
So when her husband Benigno put down his newspaper one day last week and told her he had some “Very, very, very good news,” she had an inkling she knew what he was talking about.
“But I still thought he was joking!” she said from her chair in the Federal Way Washington’s Lottery office. Aesquivel was there to claim $140,000 that she won with a very lucky Hit 5 ticket in the game’s February 27 drawing. A ticket she had given to Benigno for safe keeping.
“When I found out we had won, I decided to take the rest of the day off,” she says.
Aesquivel doesn’t have any wild dreams of what to do with her winnings.
“I’m still gonna’ be working!” says the neonatal nurse from Valley Medical Center, who has lived in Kent for 18 years. “But this will give us a little bit of a break.”
The Aesquivels plan on paying some bills, putting some into savings, and maybe taking their three children on a vacation.
“I still can’t believe this – it’s just a great feeling,” says Aesquivel. “Maybe we do deserve to win, but so do a lot of other people. I just wish more people could experience this!”
Aesquivel matched all five numbers in the February 27 Hit 5 drawing – 13-17-29-36-37. She purchased her ticket at Beverage + SMO located at 17310 140thAve. SE in Renton.
