RATHDRUM WOMAN FINALLY CLAIMS $600,000 POWERBALL

RATHDRUM - After two plus months of rumor and speculation, a Rathdrum woman finally came forward to claim the outstanding $600,000 winning Powerball ticket from December 15, 2007 proving good things do come to those who wait.
Alice Massey, a life long Idahoan and resident of northern Idaho for more than three decades, picked up her prize at the Lottery Headquarters in Boise late Wednesday afternoon. After taxes, she´ll take home a check for $403,200.
"I read all the news stories and heard all about the ticket and always wondered who that dumb person was who hadn´t checked their ticket to find the winner," described the Floor Supervisor at Liberty Tool. "It turned out to be me!"
Massey discovered the ticket late Tuesday night among a collection of old lotto tickets she keeps in her plastic lottery folder when she visited the store.
"We were at the store and had a big pile of the tickets. We started using the check-a-ticket to see if any of them were winners. My son found a $3 and a $21 winner," described Massey. "I handed a bunch to the store clerk to check and the next thing I knew, she and the store manager were just staring at me and looking at my ticket."
Evidently, the store manager told Massey they didn´t have a checkbook big enough to pay the claim and she´d have to go to Boise to get the money.
"Are you pulling my leg?" asked Massey, certain it was a joke.
It was no joke. Massey had the big winning Powerball ticket from December 15, 2007 all along. "The clerk, the manager and my son all had to hold me up," she explained. By that time, the store had come to a standstill and everyone in line was wondering what was going on.
For their part in selling the ticket, Super 1 Foods will receive a bonus of $50,000.
As for her plans, well Massey is planning on returning to work, paying off a few things and investing the balance. Good things do come to those who wait.
