ARLINGTON MAN IS "ECSTATIC" AFTER $2.3 MILLION LOTTO WIN
February 11, 2008
OLYMPIA— Forty-eight-year-old Owen Osborn has been playing the Lottery for years and says he knew he’d win one day. So when he called the Lottery’s Winning Numbers Hotline and checked off all six numbers on his ticket, he silently thought, “It’s about time.” Today, the Arlington man claimed the Wednesday Lottojackpot for $2.3 million.
A retail clerk at Wilson’s Market in Everett for 19 years, Osborn usually buys a Lotto ticket for each drawing and is diligent about checking his ticket. He purchased the winning ticket during a quick stop at the 7-Eleven on Broadway Street in Everett. Osborn called the Winning Numbers line twice Wednesday night—just to double check his win. He matched all six winning Lotto numbers in the February 6 drawing - 02-08-14-27-33-46.
“We’re payin’ off the mortgage!” he yelled to his wife of 17 years, Pat. “Boy Howdy!” he remarked to Lottery officials, repeatedly describing the feeling as “Ecstatic!”“My wife’s already got it spent!” he joked.
Colleagues at his longtime workplace were happy for their co-worker. Taking the morning off work, Osborn drove to the old Lottery office location in Everett before realizing the office had moved to Silver Lake in Everett two years earlier.
Undaunted, he arrived at the new location to file his claim.
“Hey—it’s all good,” he said with a big smile.
Osborn took the cash option and walks away with a check for $862,500 after taxes. The Arlington man says the couple will pay off their mortgage and put some money away, remarking that “The retirement plan just got a boost!”
Osborn is practical and says he’ll continue working but mentioned the possibility of taking a vacation to visit friends in Aruba. But first, Osborn called his boss to ask for the rest of the day off to go to the bank!
For its efforts, 7-Eleven will receive a retail selling bonus of $23,000.
