INGHAM COUNTY TEEN: BULK OF $500,000 LOTTERY PRIZE GOING TO PARENTS
March 18, 2017
An Ingham County teenager plans to give the bulk of his $500,000 Michigan Lottery prize to his parents to thank them for their support.

19-year-old’s gift of a lifetime is possible because he won one of the top prizes – $500,000 – playing the Lottery’s Golden Wild Time instant game. He bought the winning ticket at the Sunoco gas station, located at 2635 North Williamston Road in Williamston.

“I stopped at the Sunoco for gas after giving a buddy of mine a ride and they had one Golden Wild Time ticket left, so I bought it,” said the player, who chose to remain anonymous. “I scratched off in the store and at first I thought they were playing a trick on me until I saw how excited they were about the ticket.”
The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Friday to claim his winnings and shared special plans for his big prize.

“I’m going to keep about $5,000 for myself to invest, and I’m going to give the rest to my parents,” said the player. “My parents have done so much for my sister and me, helping them takes a big weight off of their shoulders and mine.”

As for what it feels like to win the Lottery at such a young age, the player said: “It’s just incredible, I can’t get the smile off of my face.”

Players have won more than $28.5 million playing Golden Wild Time, which launched in August 2016. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $500,000. More than $18.5 million in prizes remain, including 45 $10,000 prizes, and 89 $1,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.

In 2016, Lottery players won nearly $817 million playing instant games.
