VOLUNTEER MENTOR’S CHANCE TICKET NETS $100,000 POWERBALL LOTTERY PRIZE
December 17, 2016
Raymond Williams’ full schedule would have anyone craving for more sleep. The Meriden resident balances a full time job, volunteer work and provides for his family every day. Needing a “pick-me-up”, he stopped by a gas station for an energy drink and decided to purchase a Powerball ticket as well.

“I didn’t think anything of it,” Williams told Lottery officials. It wasn’t until later that Williams realized a $100,000 Powerball prize was his to claim!

The winning Powerball numbers on December 3, 2016 were -- 8 – 10 – 26 – 27 – 33. The Powerball number was 22 and the Power Play multiplier was 2. Williams’ Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket matched four of the five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number. Because his Powerball ticket was Power Played for an extra $1 at the time of purchase, the $50,000 prize was automatically doubled to $100,000.

Williams was overjoyed when he scanned his ticket through the Ticket Checker. “I checked and it popped up! I asked the clerk, ‘Are you sure this is right?’” he said with a laugh.

As an active role model in Middletown, Williams participates in a youth mentoring program and uses basketball to facilitate an outlet. With a busy schedule, Williams still finds a way to donate time and effort to his community. “It’s worth it.”

The lucky winner’s love for basketball extends to his family; Williams plans to treat his children to a Boston Celtics game over the holidays with his winnings. “It’s going to be a good Christmas!”

The winning ticket was sold at Fuel Plus located on 708 Washington Street in Middletown.
