“We usually buy one LOTTO MAX ticket and one LOTTO 6/49 ticket every week,” shared the long-time friends who have also been playing as a group for seven years.
“I usually buy our tickets and also check them every week,” shared Jean while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto with Paula to pick up their winnings. “I validated the ticket at the store and the terminal froze. OLG called the store and that is when I found out we won a million dollars! I celebrated right there with staff and customers. Then I went straight home to call Paula and share the good news.”
“When Jean called, she yelled, ‘We won, we won!’” shared Paula. “I asked her, ‘How many zeros do you see?’ We counted together, ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.’ Then I yelled, ‘A million dollars!’ After that I drove straight over to see Jean.”
Jean waited for her friend at the door. “She showed me the ticket and I had to call OLG again to be absolutely certain. I never actually expected to win,” admitted Paula.
The pair decided to make the trip to Toronto to collect their big cheque. “The last time I was in Toronto was in 1947 to buy my wedding dress,” said Jean. “All these years later, I won’t be spending money, but instead collecting it!”
Paula and Jean already have plans for their windfall and sharing with loved ones is on the list for both winners. “I love my family and want to give money gifts to my brother and sister and their children,” said Paula. “I also can’t wait to look after my mom. She spent so much of her life taking care of us it’s now time to take care of her. Finally, I would love to travel to Iceland, explore the outdoors and meet the people.”
Jean’s plan also includes family. “This win makes me very happy because I know I will be able to share it with the people I love including my daughter. I also have a grandson in Ottawa who recently got married and bought a new home. I would like to give them a money gift. Finally, I plan to enhance my smile with some dental work.”
The pair concluded, “Winning the lottery is like icing on the cake for us. We both love our lives and our families and we’re grateful every day. This win means more wonderful times ahead. And we will both keep playing the lottery together!”
