Buchanan of Bowmanville is thrilled after winning the $2 million jackpot in the July 30, 2016 ONTARIO 49 draw.
“I always play the same numbers, a combination of my wife’s birthday, my son’s birthday and my own,” shared Jim while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his winnings. “The morning after the draw, I was checking the numbers online and immediately knew I had won. I know those numbers off by heart!”
Jim called his wife into the room to share his exciting news, but she was sure he had made a mistake. “She really didn’t believe me and thought I was looking at the wrong date.” So Jim called his son, and together they went to the store to check the ticket.
“I was numb when I saw the amount on the screen,” Jim recalled. The pair then went back home and Jim’s son shared the good news with his mother. “My son called out as we walked in the door, ‘Hey mom, it is real, he won!’”
Jim already has big plans for his windfall. “My wife has always wanted to visit Hawaii and my dream is an Alaskan cruise. We will also be helping out my son and his wife, who just bought a house. Now I can sit back, relax and I can finally do my happy dance!” concluded Jim.
The winning ticket was purchased at Rosswell Convenience on Rosswell Drive in Courtice.
