A Vashon Island woman is the latest Washington’s Lottery grand prize winner after winning $75,000 playing Scratch. The woman was grocery shopping with her son at the Vashon Market (17639 100th Ave SW, Vashon, WA 98070) when she purchased the winning “$75,000 Fortune” ticket.
The woman told Lottery officials her husband passed away a few years ago after a battle with cancer. On their final family vacation, a cruise to Alaska, she was so concerned with getting her husband off the ship and home once it docked that she accidentally left diamond earrings in the cabin. The earrings were a gift from her husband.
“I’m really excited to replace those earrings,” the winner said. “I’ve been wanting to buy another pair since he passed, and now I finally can.”
The winner also plans to give some of the money to her kids who are all going through home renovations.
Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
