Edward Bell is primarily a Pick 4 player, but a recent stroke of good luck may see the addition of Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets to his repertoire after he scored the first $57,777 top prize on a “Red Hot 7s” game.

Bell purchased the ticket while waiting in line at Apple Market, 2300 Mitchell Ave. in St. Joseph, but he almost forgot he had tucked it into his back pocket. After scratching off the winning ticket a couple of days later, he went back to the market to have it checked by the retailer.
“I didn’t even know I won for real,” he explained. “I just knew the guy was kidding me. He said, ‘We can’t cash that here,’ and I thought he was kidding me until he called out a manager.”
That surprising news led the St. Joseph resident to claim his top prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City office on June 13.
Bell, who boasts nine children and 31 grandchildren, said he doesn’t have definite plans for his winnings yet, but he teasingly added, “Once they find out, I’m sure I’ll have plans for it.”

In addition to top prizes of $57,777, “Red Hot 7s” offers thousands of other prizes, ranging from $3 to $27,777 – all of which can be tracked on the Scratchers pages.

To date, players of “Red Hot 7s” have won more than $8.6 million, leaving another $9.2 million in prizes still available in the game.
