As Michael Cole scratched his $3,000,000 Fortune ticket from the Virginia Lottery, he began to suspect it might be a really big winner. The Waverly man decided that was a good time to get away from the other customers in the store.
“So I eased around the side of the store to finish scratching it,” he said.
That’s when he discovered he was right: he’d just won the game’s $500,000 prize.
“I went back inside and asked the clerk to quietly verify it was a winner,” he said.
$3,000,000 Fortune (game #1576) features prizes ranging from $20 up to $3 million. The $500,000 prize that Mr. Cole won is actually the second prize. The odds of winning the top prize in this game are 1 in 1,305,600. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 2.97.
He bought the winning ticket at East Coast, 4707 County Drive in Disputanta. He’s not the only winner. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Mr. Cole, who is a small business owner in Waverly, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
