When Arthur Eisler went out to lunch, he had a $10 winning Virginia Lottery ticket to cash in. So the Mechanicsville man used those winnings to buy a few more tickets to scratch with his wife. One of them was a Queen of Hearts ticket. When he scratched it, he saw something he’d never seen before.
“My wife looked at me and said, ‘What’s the matter?’” he recalled. “I said, ‘I think we just won $250,000!’”

He was right. He bought the winning ticket at Fas Mart, 9200 Chamberlayne Road in Mechanicsville.
“We sat in the parking lot for a while just pondering what to do,” he said. “It’s just kind of mind-boggling.”
Queen of Hearts is one of dozens of Scratcher games from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $5 to $250,000. This is the first top prize claimed in this game, which means two $250,000 tickets remain unclaimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,060,800. The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 4.29.
When it comes to education, the Virginia Lottery is game.  In fact, it’s the reason we play.  We generate more than $1.4 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools.  Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of Lottery products, the Virginia Lottery generated nearly $534 million for Virginia’s public schools in Fiscal Year 2015.
