Over the years, the Oregon Lottery has held 16 Raffle games, including this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle. With each Raffle, the $1 million top prize winner usually showed up at the Lottery office in Salem the day the winning numbers are announced to claim their prize.

When this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle winner had not shown up for almost a week after the drawing, the Lottery reached out to the media to spread the word that someone had a $1 million prize and might not even know.

Now we know who has that ticket. Less than two hours after sending out the media release, Pamela Hoefling of Dallas was at the Lottery office ready to claim her $1 million St. Patrick’s Day Raffle prize.

“I got off work this morning and remembered that I hadn’t checked my Raffle ticket,” said Pam. “So I went out to the car, got the ticket and went into the Safeway to have it checked. They scanned the ticket and told me it said I needed to go to Salem. I thought, ‘Oh, OK,’ but didn’t know how much I’d won. So they printed the winning Raffle numbers and then checked those with my ticket and then we all freaked out!”

With each Raffle the Lottery offers, either Pam or her husband, Rick, buy just two tickets. To add a little fun to the game, whoever buys the tickets puts one in each hand and puts their hands behind their back and the other one picks the right or left hand. “Pam bought the tickets so it was my turn to pick,” said Rick. “I picked and Pam won, so I guess you could say I lost!”

Pam bought her winning ticket at the Safeway on Ellendale Ave. in Dallas. After taxes, her prize was $670,000.

The Oregon Lottery reminds players to always sign the back of their Lottery tickets, regardless of the game. In the event of winning a jackpot, they should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Prize winners of more than $50,000 should contact the Lottery office to schedule an appointment to claim their prize.

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned nearly $10 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements. For more information on the Oregon Lottery visit
