Mack Locklear of Maxton woke up his wife early Wednesday morning to share exciting news. Thinking their expectant daughter was going into labor, she jumped out of bed. That’s when her husband told her his lucky Cash 5 numbers came up the night before, winning a $215,193 jackpot.

“It was exciting – unbelievable really,” Locklear said. “I thought I might win eventually one day – maybe $50,000 – but never $200,000.”

Locklear, a native of Robeson County, works the third shift as a forklift operator for Campbell’s Soup, where he has been employed for 26 years. He said that after-tax winnings of $149,021 would be used to make home improvements, donate to the family’s church and save for retirement.

Locklear purchased his winning ticket for Tuesday’s drawing at the Community Stop on West Martin Luther King Drive in Maxton.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $63.7 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Robeson County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
