ANNAPOLIS FRIENDS SHARE $250,000 MEGA MILLIONS PRIZE
August 23, 2012
A group of six friends in Annapolis is sharing more than good times after their Mega Millions ticket matched all five white-ball numbers drawn on Aug. 10 to win the $250,000 second-level prize. The six winners, who will each receive $41,666 before taxes, are:  Marilyn Trowbridge, 63, Larry Trowbridge, 72, Jeffrey Vroman, 51, Donald Barnes, 67, Richard Bollinger, 58, and Aron Pratt, 66, all of Annapolis.

Marilyn Trowbridge, who collects the money from the group and organizes the ticket purchases, bought the winning Quick Pick ticket on the Wednesday before the drawing, like always. But unlike her routine, it was the first time she purchased the tickets at Casey’s General Store, 529 Potosi St., in Farmington.

“I forgot to get them at the Smoke Store in Farmington, so I bought them at Casey’s,” Trowbridge said.

She checked the group’s tickets on Saturday morning and discovered one of the tickets held all the winning numbers: 10, 18, 36, 38 and 44. When she realized it was worth $250,000, she called her husband, who was in the barn.

“I said, ‘You’d better come here right away,’” she said.  “He thought something happened to the dog.”

After Marilyn drove to Ironton to check the ticket at a retail location, Larry Trowbridge called the four others and asked them to come to their house.

“They thought it was bad news,” Marilyn explained.

Trowbridge said she and her husband are not sure what they will do with the windfall.

“I’ll just think about it awhile” she said.

As for the others, she said, “One person is going to put a roof on his office.”

Trowbridge said the group has been playing the Missouri Lottery together for the past 10 years. They each contribute $6 a week.
