WIDLIFE WINNING$, LOVE OF THE OUTDOORS MEETS GREAT PRIZES!
August 23, 2011
On Aug. 23, the Lottery launched the Wildlife Winning$ game book, which features the artwork of Jim Hansel, one of Minnesota’s premier wildlife, nature and landscape artists. Hansel donated the artwork used in the game books.
Wildlife Winning$ is a $20 game book that includes six pages of games and offers instant cash prizes of up to $300,000! Players who don’t win instantly can enter their tickets for the chance to win prizes including Visa gift cards, a Jim Hansel print or Vikings merchandise. The second-chance promotion also starts on Aug. 23.
Players can enter non-winning tickets on the Lottery’s players club, Lucky MN. Visit www.luckymn.com for details including drawing deadlines, prizes and official rules.
“The Minnesota State Lottery is very fortunate to partner with such a talented and gifted artist as Jim Hansel. Jim’s artwork provides beautifully detailed artwork which fits perfectly with the artwork we were seeking for our specialty Wildlife Winning$ game book,” said Acting Lottery Director Jenny Canfield.
“Jim’s outdoor and wildlife paintings are exquisite and resonate well with the Lottery’s efforts to raise funds for Minnesota’s environmental programs, including the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, Game & Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund as well as other important programs for the State,” Canfield added.
“It’s an honor to have some of my artwork selected for the Lottery tickets,” said Hansel. “For me as a wildlife artist, I think it’s great that part of the proceeds will be going to Minnesota conservation. I've made a career out of painting nature and wildlife and it's wonderful to be able to help contribute toward its preservation.”
Hansel is an artist with a twist. At the age of 12, he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition called Stargardts. This eye condition left him legally blind. In spite of his limited vision, he pursued his passion for painting with the use of low vision devices and has become one of the most collected artists in the United States and Canada.
It is Hansel’s desire that his artwork be judged on its own merit in spite of his visual impairment, and it is this determination and a commitment to excellence that has launched him into the national spotlight. Since the release of his first image in 1987, Hansel has produced nearly 200 limited edition prints, many of which have sold out due to his immense popularity as an artist. His reputation for detail as well as distinctive, colorful landscapes, have proven to be very popular with art collectors worldwide.
