VALPARAISO STEEL WORKER SCORES $250,000 WIN PLAYING MEGA MILLIONS
December 28, 2011
When you work as hard as Ron Crowe does, days off are few and far between. It has to be a pretty special occasion to justify taking one, and when you do, you had better make the most of it.
For Crowe, who is a steel worker from Valparaiso, Ind., Tuesday met all the right criteria after he discovered Monday night that he was holding a winning Mega Millions® ticket worth $250,000. He took Tuesday off, drove to Indianapolis with his son, Nick, and claimed his winnings at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters.
“We work hard – both me and my wife. We never take a day off,” said Crowe. “We work a lot of 16-hour days and 80-hour weeks. But, I figured I could afford to take one day off for this.”
Crowe, who grew up in Hebron, Ind., spends a modest six dollars a week on all three of the Hoosier Lottery’s Big Jackpot Games – two dollars each on Powerball®, Hoosier Lotto™ and Mega Millions.
“I matched five numbers and someone told me that they thought it paid $100,000. That sounded good to me,” said Crowe. “Then I checked the (Hoosier Lottery) website, found out it paid $250,000 and I about had a stroke. I was yelling and screaming; I couldn’t believe it.”
The winning numbers in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing were 3-5-8-18-29 MB: 14. Crowe plays those first five numbers every time as they represent his wedding anniversary, his wife’s birthday, his birthday and the birthdays of his two sons.
