SILVER CITY WOMAN WINS THIRD NEW MEXICO LOTTERY PRIZE
August 25, 2011
A Silver City woman who plays only crossword-style Scratcher games won a third large prize in six years.
On Aug. 13, Laurinda J. Anderson revealed 10 words to win $50,000 in the New Mexico Lottery’s “Casino Crossword” game. In 2005, Anderson won $30,000 in the “Bonus Word Crossword” game and $5,000 in 2010 playing the “Daily Crossword” game.Laurinda J. Anderson
Anderson said she never expected to hit another large prize.
“I was kind of in disbelief,” she recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque Friday. “I kept checking and checking and then I finally had to read the words off and have my husband count them because I couldn’t believe I had really won $50,000.”
Anderson, who is known by store clerks as “The Crossword Lady,” said she plans to make donations to her favorite charities after finishing a few home improvements.
The three-time winner’s most recent lucky ticket came from Shell Food Mart at 2045 E. U.S. Highway 180 in Silver City. Previously, stores located at this address have sold 11 large prize-winning lottery tickets paying between $1,000 and $125,000. Anderson’s other winning tickets came from Snappy Mart No. 2 at 1123 W. 12th St. and Hudson Street Chevron No. 8 at 801 N. Hudson St., both in Silver City.
