REDMOND HOUSEKEEPER WINS $6 MILLION LOTTO JACKPOT
October 14, 2011
Sixty-six-year-old Dana Talbert, a Redmond resident, won $6 million in last night's Lotto drawing. The winning numbers were her children's birthdates. Since 1986 Dana has used those dates as her numbers when playing Washington's Lottery games – also including Hit5, Match 4, and Powerball – but this time they finally paid off!
"I always buy my Lottery tickets the day of the drawing. I bought this ticket just yesterday afternoon from Chevron, along with a $1 Powerball and a Hometown Heroes Raffle ticket," Dana said, explaining her strategy. "I usually check my winning numbers online. When I checked at 4:50 this morning in my bedroom, I thought 'No, this can't be.'"
Dana lives with her 45-year-old daughter and 11 year-old grandson, when she found out she won she ran to her daughter to tell her the amazing news. She kept the ticket in her purse for safe keeping and called her son; then she called her "tax man."
Dana has been a housekeeper for 15 years and was proud to say she now plans to retire. With her winnings, she will pay off her bills, credit cards, and the family cars. A longtime renter, Dana says she's ready to have something to call their own, so also plans to buy a new house for the three of them.
As Dana is a regular at the store where she bought her winning ticket, she's thrilled that it will also benefit from her win. The winning $6 million Lotto ticket was sold by the Kirkland Chevron Station on 12500 totem Lake Blvd NE, and it will receive a $60,000 retail selling bonus from Dana's big win!
