RAPID CITY WOMAN CLAIMS $50,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

Lisa DeVries of Rapid City always spends an extra dollar to get the Power Play option on her Powerball ticket. On October 29, 2011, she found out what a great investment that dollar was when she matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball in that night’s drawing.
Normally, the match would be worth $10,000. But because DeVries had purchased the Power Play option and the Power Play number was five, her prize grew to $50,000, which she claimed at the Rapid City Lottery office on November 4, 2011.
DeVries purchased her winning ticket at Big D Oil Company on East Omaha in Rapid City. The store was already guaranteed a bonus of $1,000 for selling the $10,000 ticket but the Power Play option meant their bonus was multiplied by five as well, netting them $5,000 for the sale. The odds of winning the $10,000 prize playing Powerball are 1:723,145.
While DeVries has known she was a $50,000 winner since her husband checked the winning numbers on-line last Sunday, she says she has no definite plans for what to do with her prize money.
“You always think when I win, I’ll do this and this and this with the money. Then when you do win and the money’s in the bank, it’s hard to decide. I’m still thinking about it,” she said.
Now that she’s had a big win, she says she’ll continue to play Powerball AND keep spending the extra dollar to add Power Play.
“I purchased tickets for the next draw right after I won and I bought them for Saturday’s (Nov. 5) draw, too. You always have a chance to be a winner!” said DeVries.
