RAINIER PLACE NAMED LOTTERY RETAILER OF THE YEAR FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR!

For the fourth year in a row, Rainier Place ARCO in Union Gap has been named Washington's Lottery's Retailer of the Year out of more than 4,000 retailers statewide. Lottery Retailers of the Year are selected based on criteria of employee enthusiasm, management and clerk involvement, display of Lottery signage, store sales and overall Lottery involvement. The selection was made for fiscal year 2011.
Each quarter, Lottery officials pick one retailer from each of its five regions as Retailers of the Quarter. At the end of the fiscal year, a Lottery committee selects one of those retailers as its Retailer of the Year. The winning retailer receives a $1,000 bonus, a plaque, special in-store displays and equipment, t-shirts for employees and an on-site celebration.
Rainier Place management and staff went above and beyond this last fiscal year to win the prize for the fourth year in a row. The store runs Lottery promotions for their customers almost constantly, regularly creating their own original events and contests. "We always have a promotion going on," said store owner Greg Sybouts. Whether it's a big tub of balloons in the store – each balloon filled with a Lottery Scratch ticket – or the "Rosa Fix," which is a Mega Millions, a Lotto, a Match 4, a Hit 5, and a Powerball ticket packet for $7, with a $2 Scratch ticket for free – Greg likes to keep promotions going all the time. "Lottery is a fun way to bring in new customers, and it keeps them coming back," he explained.
Rosa Mullen, the store's manager and "Rosa Fix" namesake, says it's all about having fun. "I love giving money away," she said. "It makes [the customers] happy; it makes me happy; and they walk away with a smile. We make a point to learn our customers' names and get excited when they come back."
Greg, who's been working with the Lottery since 2002, added that he only hires people who have a positive attitude. "All of our employees are outgoing and nice, which helps customers feel welcomed in the store." Their great attitude landed them $1,000 and a fourth consecutive honor as the Lottery Retailer of the Year.
