Twelve nurses from University of Chicago were presented today with an oversized check $250,000 from the Illinois Lottery. The nurses bought their winning Mega Millions ticket at Circle K in Orland Hills. The nurses matched all five numbers on the Nov. 8 draw through a Quick Pick – 05 - 31 - 45 - 47 and 54.
The nurses call themselves the Lucky 12. They work the overnight shift in Labor and Delivery and have a long-standing Lottery pool where they each contribute $16 a month to play both Powerball and Mega Millions. According to Rosalind Seals, the person who normally bought their tickets went on maternity leave so another member of the Lucky 12 stepped in to make the November purchase. One hitch, this person had never bought a Lottery ticket before. So Seals wrote out detailed instructions on a piece of paper and off she went to a Circle K in Orland Hills. “I am so glad she followed my instructions and bought her tickets where she did,” Seals said.
All of the nurses said this Lottery win is making their holidays a bit brighter this year Circle K received a $2,500 bonus, one percent of the jackpot amount, for selling a winning ticket. Store manager, Deana Turner was excited that they sold the winning ticket, and was waiting for the winner to come forward. “I kept asking our regular players to check their Mega Millions ticket to find our big winner,” Turner said. This is the biggest winner on record for this location under the Circle K management, said Tim Caddell, Market Manager for Circle K
