NORTHEAST COUPLE GRABS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE
July 8, 2011
For Tina and Donald Hackett, winning a $200,000 Powerball prize was far more thrilling than the 4thof July fireworks. The Northeast couple bought their winning ticket for the June 29 drawing and claimed their $200,000 Powerball prize at D.C. Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
The winning numbers for the June 29 drawing were 24-30-45-57-59-PB26. The Hackett’s matched the first five digits to win the $200,000 prize.
Together for 27 years, the Northeast couple plays the D.C. Lottery as a team. Her preference is for D.C. Scratchers. His is for the numbers and jackpot games. He typically picks the numbers, she plays them. The dynamic duo purchased their winning ticket at Skip’s Liquors, 405 61st Street, N.E. for the Wednesday, June 29, 2011 drawing.
“I went over to Skip’s and they said somebody hit for $200,000. I looked at the ticket in my back pocket, checked it with my wife and came back the next day,” says Mr. Hackett. “I’ve won before with the D.C. Lottery, but this is my first big win.”
“I couldn’t believe it at first,” says Mrs. Hackett. It’s still hard to realize, but the check makes it easier!”
The couple has contemplated what to do with their windfall. With 15 grandkids, bills, and a little planned recreation, they say they have all their bases covered. “I’m planning on fixing-up the house,” says Mr. Hackett.
“I know I’m getting a carpet cleaner,” says Mrs. Hackett.
“The D.C. Lottery is excited to congratulate yet another big winner. In a two-week time period, we’ve celebrated a $250,000 Mega Millions winner and now a $200,000 Powerball winner. Our players are just one number away from the grand prize!” said Buddy Roogow, executive director of the D.C. Lottery. “As we love to say, ‘Lots of People Win’ with the D.C. Lottery!”
