MYSTERY WINNER OF $21 MILLION LOTTO MAX JACKPOT COMES FORWARD
October 12, 2011
When Toronto-area school teacher Craig Henshaw flew away to backpack through Europe this summer, he had no idea that he was flying away from a winning ticket for the July 8th $21 million LOTTO MAX jackpot.

"I bought the ticket, stuck it to my fridge with a whole bunch of other tickets, and then forgot about it the whole summer!" smiled the 42-year old woodshop and technology teacher.

Henshaw and his girlfriend had spent the summer travelling and it wasn't until school started again that he realized he needed to check a whole stack of tickets.

"Essentially, I walked around with a $21 million lottery ticket in my pocket all day!" laughed Henshaw, who checked his ticket at a local grocery store while he was on his way home from work.

"At first I thought I won $21,000 and was floored. I was so excited. When the OLG person on the phone told me I won $21 million, I actually dropped the phone. I was frozen. I couldn't believe it. My life is just going to be so great now!" Henshaw explained.

In his excitement, Henshaw forgot about the groceries he had purchased and raced home to share the news with his parents and his girlfriend.

"I still can't believe it!!" he smiled. "This just doesn't seem real. All the things that I want to do, such as buy my first home and settle down, are now going to be a possibility."

Henshaw says one of the first things he is going to do is set up an education fund for his nieces and nephew and help a close-friend with tuition.

"And then I'm taking my parents on a trip somewhere warm and taking my girlfriend back to Europe in style!!" he laughed.

Henshaw says that he will take a year off from teaching, but enjoys teaching too much to imagine a future without it.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell Gas Bar on Dupont Street in Toronto.
